How many times can I enter Thailand? New Visa 2026: 30-Day Limits and Land Border Restrictions.

Here are the updated regulations you need to know before you travel.

Thailand Entry Rules: 2026 Update

Thai Immigration has recently implemented new regulations affecting foreigners entering the country
under the Visa Exemption scheme, particularly via land borders.

1. Land Border Entry (No Prior Visa)

  • Annual Entry Limit: You are granted a visa exemption stamp only twice per calendar year (January 1 – December 31).

  • Duration Change: While 60-day stays were common in 2025, the government has officially reverted the exemption to 30 days for land entries in early 2026.

  • Scope: This applies to all land borders shared with Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Malaysia.

2. Air Entry (International Airports)

  • Flexibility: Travelers arriving via international airports are still generally permitted up to 6 visa-exempt entries per year.

  • Scrutiny: Despite the higher limit, immigration officers are now more likely to question travelers who show a pattern of "living" in Thailand on tourist stamps.

3. Visa Extensions

  • Duration: Most visa exemption stamps can be extended once for 30 days.

  • Fee: The standard fee remains THB 1,900.

  • Restriction: Be aware that in 2026, some land border entries are being marked as "non-extendable" to prevent repeated border runs.

4. Abolishing the 90-Day Cumulative Rule

In a positive move for frequent visitors, the old restriction that limited total stay to 90 days within a six-month period has been abolished. This means you can visit more often, provided you:

  • Do not exceed the 2-entry limit for land.

  • Have a clear onward travel ticket and proof of funds.

  • Complete the mandatory Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) before arrival.

Pro-Tip for 2026: If you plan to visit Thailand for more than 60 days total in a year,  highly recommends applying for the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) or a standard Tourist Visa in advance to avoid any issues at the border.
